Introduction

With the growing demand for academic professionals in maritime medicine to possess strong competencies in research methodology and evidence-based practice, this course has been designed to meet those needs. Whether planning and writing a thesis or applying scientific literature in professional practice, the ability to conduct and communicate research is essential. The International Maritime Health Foundation (IMHF) has launched this course to support aspiring authors aiming to publish in International Maritime Health (IMH)—the only indexed, international scientific journal dedicated to maritime medicine. This course empowers participants to contribute meaningfully to global maritime health research and evidence-based practice.

Course Overview

This course provides comprehensive training in research methodology, specifically tailored for public and occupational health within the maritime sector. The program is structured into three modules, delivered over a total of six months, with an estimated study time of 175–210 hours. Module Breakdown:  Module 1: Self-paced ⏱️ 35–70 hours over 7 weeks 🎯 Focus: Introduction to research methods and literature review  Modules 2 & 3: Instructor-supported (optional coaching available for a fee) ⏱️ 70 hours each, over 7 weeks 🎯 Focus: Study design, data collection, manuscript/protocol development Expected Competencies Upon Completion 1. Ability to conduct minor research projects independently. 2. Skills in systematically searching scientific literature. 3. Proficiency in communicating study results effectively. 4. Competence in preparing manuscripts for international scientific journals. 5. Capability to produce a scientific thesis or article in an internationally accepted format.
